THE PLAN PILOTO CONTINUES

The excitement and spirit of Missionary Work keeps growing strong. We finished the month of August with 63 children of God entering the waters of baptism, and reaching record highs of disciples attending church. We are so pleased to see that more and more people are having the blessing of partaking of the Sacrament. We know that this is what Jesus would want for them.

This last week, we received a special visit from Elder Walter F. Gonzalez, who came to do an Evaluation of the Pilot Plan that we are involved in, and what we were doing to have success. He analyzed the ministration, our use of the Book of Mormon in our teaching, and how we are helping less actives attend church. It was very edifying, and he was happy to see that we were all so involved in Missionary Work. It is such a blessing to serve, and be representatives of Jesus Christ.

This month of September is very important for us. For one, is the the month of the Famous 'Fiestas Patrias' or Celebration of the Chile's independence. Chile goes crazy, and we will need to work hard to keep up with them. This month, the Attendance is measured, and it will serve as a measurement of just how effective the Plan Piloto was. We must give it our all, and seek to serve with all of our Heart, Might, Mind, and Strength. May the Lord be with you all, and may your prayers help us to keep moving forward.

ANOTHER GROUP GONE

Yesterday was a sad day for President and Hermana Barreiros. They had to say goodbye to 24 Go Homers, which, as said by President and his wife, is the hardest part of being Mission Presidents. It was a group filled with hard workers, leaders, examples, and fantastic missionaries. They all contributed a significant part of the mission, and surely helped to edify us all. Below, you may view the video that was made in memory of those that served with us. They are all fantastic people, with a strong potential in life, and will be people of much success.

This month has followed in being a month of much success in the mission! The Pilot Plan continues pressing forward, as we reached a whopping 68 baptisms this month. We finished the month with bringing over 600 less actives to church as well, and working hard to acheive our mission goal to raise the attendance to sacrament meeting by 20%. We are getting closer and closer, as we have already reached nearly a 10% increase. We are so grateful to the Lord for having blessed us so much; with great missionaries, prepared people, and the spirit that blesses each and every one of our lives.

We hope and pray to continue living worthy of these blessings, so that we may further build up Zion.

WE WELCOME YOU

We would like to welcome you to the official blog of the Chile Santiago West Mission, “A Lighthouse for the World”. The lighthouse is a strong symbol for us, signifying strength and guidance in the storms of the world. As prophesied by Elder Jeffery R. Holland, Chile is to become a lighthouse for all the world, standing as a firm example of living the gospel faithfully and helping those in need. You can learn more about the mission under the “Who Are We?” tab, but for a quick explanation, our mission contains the areas from deep in the city center of Santiago, and stretches out through the beautiful countryside and on to the broad coast.

For those who don't know, we are all missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, of which can be learned about here. Our mission lasts for 2 years or 18 months, where our main purpose is to “Invite others to come to Christ, by helping them receive the Restored Gospel, through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the end.” We dedicate this time in our lives completely to this cause of preaching the Restored Gospel to those who are willing and ready to accept the Savior in their lives.

There are a lot of exciting things happening in the mission right now. One of the main things is that we are currently participating in a “Pilot Plan” promoted by the South America-South area offices. This pilot plan is a new approach to missionary work, where we focus on finding new people in need of the gospel, through the less active members on the records of the church. We depend on the help of active members, and new booklets called “El Rescate”, or “The Rescue” (produced by the tech-crew of missionaries we like to call “The Simi Squad”), which contain resources that help us to locate those who have strayed away.

We are having more success now than the mission has seen in a long time, due to the hard working efforts of the missionaries and a very dedicated President Barreiros, who leads us. He has a ‘go getter’ attitude, and motivates us all to “Achieve More”. Along with this, we have the firm conviction that all glory pertains to God and Jesus Christ, who, thanks to his loving atonement, helps us all to be perfected and become more like him. May we all have the desire to grow closer to our lord this month, and trust even more in his infinite glory and power.
